Douglas J. Colcombe is a seasoned and compassionate counseling professional with over three decades of experience in public education, serving in a wide range of roles that span elementary to secondary levels. His career reflects a deep commitment to student development, educational leadership, and faith-based service. As a private counselor and member of our counseling agency’s leadership team, Douglas brings a wealth of expertise in academic guidance, behavioral support, and organizational strategy.

Douglas holds a Master of Science in Education from Duquesne University in School Counseling and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from St. Vincent College. He is certified as a K–12 Principal, School Counselor (K–12), and Social Studies Teacher (7–12), and has completed specialized training in SAP (Student Assistance Program) facilitation. His educational journey is rooted in Catholic values, having attended Catholic institutions from kindergarten through graduate school, which continues to inform his holistic and ethical approach to counseling.

Throughout his career in the Norwin, Greensburg Salem, and Hampton Township School Districts, Douglas has served as a school counselor, department head, dean of students, and history teacher. His leadership roles have included coordinating career fairs, managing Section 504 service plans, overseeing gifted education, and facilitating standardized testing programs. He has also led initiatives such as internship development, summer programs for at-risk students, and academic awards assemblies.

Douglas’s leadership extends beyond the school walls. He has actively contributed to district-wide committees including strategic planning, character education, technology integration, and professional development. His collaborative style and communication skills have made him a trusted voice at board meetings, community events, and in media interviews. He has mentored educators, supervised interns, and provided instructional consultations, always striving to build capacity and promote excellence.


A proud veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, Douglas achieved the rank of Sergeant (E-5) and completed leadership training at the New Hampshire Military Academy. His service background enhances his disciplined, mission-driven approach to counseling and leadership.

Douglas is also deeply involved in volunteer work, including youth ministry, Catholic service camps, and community outreach programs. His recognitions include nominations to Who’s Who Among American Teachers, honors from Duquesne University and St. Vincent College, and commendations from KDKA-TV2 and the University of Pittsburgh.
